Custom wheel & tire packages for Metro Detroit: Winter fitment, staggered setups, and what fits your car

A custom wheel and tire package is more than picking a finish you like. Done right, it accounts for fitment, suspension clearance, load rating, and — in Michigan — how the setup is going to behave when the temperature drops below freezing and the salt trucks come out. Here is how we approach a custom package at Utica Auto Spa.

Start with the car, not the wheel

Every build starts with the vehicle: year, trim, suspension state, brake setup, and how it is driven. A lowered Charger on coilovers has very different fitment requirements than a stock-height Tahoe or an air-suspended G-Wagen. We pull factory specs and measure clearance before quoting anything.

Staggered vs. square setups

Performance sedans and coupes often look and drive best with a staggered fitment — wider wheels and tires in the rear than the front. Trucks and SUVs are typically square. We will tell you what your car was designed for and where you have flexibility.

Tire choice matters as much as wheel choice

Winter fitment in Michigan

If you are running 22" or larger summer tires through a Michigan winter, you are giving up traction and risking sidewall and wheel damage on every pothole. We build a lot of two-set packages: a show set for spring through fall, and a smaller-diameter winter setup on basic alloys with proper snow tires. Same TPMS sensors get rebalanced between sets each season.

TPMS, balancing, and torque

Every package is mounted on a TPMS-aware machine, road-force balanced (not just static balanced), and torqued to spec. Road-force balancing is the difference between a smooth 80 mph cruise and a steering-wheel shimmy that no amount of re-weighting will fix.

Most clients drive in for the install at our Van Dyke Avenue shop in Utica. For out-of-state buyers, we crate and ship complete packages — wheels, tires mounted and balanced, hardware, and TPMS — anywhere in the United States.
